My dog Sky is missing. I’ve been putting off writing about her disappearance (or anything related to dogs for that matter), because putting it into written words makes it more real somehow.
My Sky has been missing since the 13th of February – well over a week now and hope is running a bit thin of ever seeing her again.
But perhaps my plight can help you or someone you know.
There are people out there that are trained in finding dogs and some use scent dogs – if you’re fortunate enough to have these people in your area I strongly suggest that you enlist their services. Here are some links to help you find them:
Unfortunately for me and Sky, there are none in the area in which we live.
You’ll also want to list your dog with as many on-line lost dog services that you can find. Here are some that I recommend:
Lost A Dog – this service has a $10 listing fee, but Joe who runs the site is a professional dog finder and will offer you advice and tips to help find your dog. You can also direct your newspaper ads to your dog’s listing on lostadog.com so interested people can see a picture of your dog and get more information.
Pet Harbor – this service is free and it will send out an alert for you to area shelters, humane societies, pounds, and craigslist. It will also send you updates on any animal meeting your dog’s description found in your area (by one of the participating organizations).
Here’s an important fact that I’ve learned: Do NOT rely on phone calls to shelters about your dog – I personally know people who found their dog in a shelter after being told that their dog wasn’t in that shelter.
Here’s hoping that you never need this information,
Amy Fox
